In the narrative of post-war Murano glass, the marketplace was shaped not only by private galleries and individual collectors, but also by a highly influential, state-backed institutional patron: ENAP.I. (Ente Nazionale per l’Artigianato e le Piccole Industrie).
Founded in 1926 by the Italian National Government to stimulate, support, and promote high-end national craftsmanship, ENAPI functioned as a bridge between the fine arts and the furnace floor. Backed financially by the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade, and Industry and Trade, ENAPI’s operational strategy was highly unique: the organization acquired original drawings and designs from prominent contemporary painters, sculptors, and graphic designers. ENAPI retained the permanent intellectual property rights to these designs and commissioned elite member workshops—most notably Vetri Decorativi Rag. Aureliano Toso—to execute them in glass.
Under the long-term leadership of its first president, the celebrated artist Giovanni Guerrini (who served until 1960), and post-war successors like Dott. Corrado Mezzana and Prof. E. Donatini, ENAPI sponsored landmark exhibitions that introduced Murano's modernist revolution to the world. These included the prestigious Milan Triennales of 1951 and 1954, and the historic "Verres Murano" exhibition in Paris in 1956.
For collectors, verifying an ENAPI-associated Aureliano Toso piece requires a deep understanding of this institutional partnership. Following the reconstruction of the company archives by glass historian Marc Heiremans, this registry documents every known Aureliano Toso model designed or commissioned under the official "ENAP.I." archival prefix.
The collaborations between ENAPI and Aureliano Toso yielded several of the most technically daring, highly documented showpieces in mid-century glass history.
This model range represents the specialized, avant-garde art glass executed by Aureliano Toso’s master glassblowers—including lead maestro Aldo "Polo" Bon—under the direct sponsorship of ENAPI for international diplomacy and exhibition runs.

During the early 1960s, ENAPI worked in close alignment with its regional Venice subdivision, the Istituto Veneto per il Lavoro, commissioning Aureliano Toso to produce structured, clean-lined, and bicolored designs for the Florence Craft Fairs.
